Welcome to The Safety Committee
We work to ensure the psychosocial and physical well-being of our members!
We work to ensure the psychosocial and physical well-being of our members!
We in the Safety Committee work to ensure that all members feel safe and welcome here at the K-guild! We take care of our Guild members, our premises and, and our environment. We value and work to ensure the psychosocial well-being of the Guild members, and make sure our student and teaching facilities are safe and functioning according to our needs.
In the Safety Committee you learn much about different support resources available to us students, and how to work to promote well-being and equality treatment. This means that we do everything from supporting students in difficult situations, to organizing events around important equality issues. Examples of held events are beading bracelets to support Transgender Awareness Week and arranging interviews with female role models and a movie night in connection with the International Women’s day.
HEAD OF SAFETY
su@ksek.se
As Head of Safety I am the leader of the Committee, which means I have the overall responsibility for the committee’s operations and economy, make sure the work moves forward as well as doing the administrative work associated with being head of the committee. I plan and lead our meetings, make a budget and make sure that it is followed, and coordinate the committee with the rest of the Guild by being part of the Committee Council. I also have the overall responsibility for the events organized by the committee, and perform much of the administrative work such as bookings, sending posters for print, and making sure that events follow the budget.
As Safety Officer I have professional secrecy according to Swedish law, and I often collaborate with the Equality Officers in issues concerning the well-being of the Guild members. As Safety Officer you get to make a difference for real, and something that is often taken up as one of the best parts of being Safety Officer is that you get to work with improving how at home people feel at the Guild. In addition, you learn a lot about the management of Kemicentrum and how that works, and you get experience of what it means to be a safety representative, something that can be a valuable experience for the future.
As the Guild’s Environment Coordinator, our main task is to help the Guild become more environmentally friendly, and there are many ways to do that! We try to find areas where we can improve - such as waste sorting and disposable items - and help all committees to improve their environmental work. We also want to inspire all Guild members by holding events related to environmental issues, such as flea markets and plogging. Last but not least, we go to meetings with the Union's Environmental College, where we get to discuss how we can develop the environmental work together with the Environmental Coordinators of the other sections, and plan events for the entire LTH! The environmental coordinator position is very free so you can choose to focus on the areas you think are most important, and thus have a unique chance to influence the Guild’s environmental work!
As Equality Officers, our role is to safeguard the psychosocial well-being of Guild members and work on the Guild's equality efforts. We are bound by confidentiality according to the Guild’s regulations, and Guild members can always come to us if they feel unwell, need support, or feel mistreated within the Guild. We are well-versed in the support resources available at LTH, the University, and in Lund in general, and we assist in taking matters further in whatever way the affected person feels comfortable with. As Equality Officers, we also sit on the Student Union’s Equality Officer Collegiate, which meets approximately every two weeks.
As an Equality Officer, you truly make a difference, and something often highlighted as the best part of the role is its importance and the ability to improve the well-being of people in the Guild. It is incredibly important to help ensure that people feel safe in the Guild, that everyone can always be themselves, and feel secure in that. You also get to learn more about how to work preventively with equality and how to use the support tools available.
As a Student Safety Representative, I ensure that the Guild's facilities are as they should be, that they are safe for students and meet the requirements during safety inspections. I also attend safety inspections twice a year in the common areas and storage rooms at KC—which is more exciting than one might think! I am also a member of the HSE Committee (Health, Safety, and Environment), where I represent the students' perspective among the heads of departments, chief safety representatives, environmental coordinators, and administrative managers at KC. In addition to this, I am also responsible for the psychosocial well-being of members of the Guild in relation to their studies. We are bound by confidentiality by law, and members of the Guild can always come to us if they feel unwell, need support, or feel mistreated in their studies. We are well-informed about the support resources available at LTH, the University, and in Lund in general, and we help to take matters further in whatever way the affected person feels comfortable with. We collaborate closely with the Student Council, which also handles student-related issues.
As a Student Safety Representative, you truly make a difference, and something often highlighted as the best part of the role is its importance and the ability to improve people’s well-being in their studies. Additionally, you gain valuable information about KC and how it operates, and you acquire experience in what it means to be a Student Safety Representative, which can be a valuable asset for the future.
The World Masters are accountable for planning and setting up fun events for the K-Guild’s international students. We also work to ensure that international students feel welcome to the guild. We’re also part of the World Master college by the Student Union at LTH where we meet World Masters from other Guilds and together arrange events for all the international students of LTH. When we're not organizing events for international students, we assist the rest of the Safety Committee with their work.
