What do we do in the Introduction Committee?

We in the Introduction Committee plan and are responsible for the best time of the year - the Introduction at the K-guild! Among other things, we decide the introduction theme, choose mentors, and put together mentor groups, make the introduction schedule, plan events, prepare entertainments (spex), design outfits and have courses for the mentors. When the end of August is here and all the new students finally arrive, it is we who run around in tinted glasses and look extremely cool. Apart from role-playing as much as we possibly can, we are responsible for making sure everything goes according to plan during the introduction. We make sure the mentors and new students have all the information they need, and if there is a problem or a crisis would occur we are the ones handling it.

In the Introduction Committee we work from the start of the year and during the spring in a small tight group. Many people highlight it as one of the best things about being part of the Introduction Committee, but it also comes with its challenges and you get to learn a lot about cooperation, group dynamics and conflict management. The Introduction Committee is also a versatile committee and as a member there is a chance to work with everything from design and creative assignments to event planning, leadership and corporate relations. Being part of the Introduction Committee is very social, and in addition to getting to know the other members of the Committee very well, you get many chances to meet and get to know the mentors, new students, and all the other Introduction Committees at LTH that we work closely with.

Head of the Introduction Committee

As Head of the Introduction Committee, I am the leader of the Committee, which means that I lead and am responsible for the Committee's operation and the introduction. This means, among other things, that I lead our meetings, set a budget and am responsible for keeping it, and ensure that the group is prepared to handle any crises that arise. Above all, this position means that I represent the Introduction Committee and coordinate our activities with the rest of the Guild via the Committee Council and the Board, with LTH via the student counselors and with the rest of the Guilds via the collegiate for the heads of introduction Committees around LTH. The collegiate usually meets once a week throughout the year. I delegate work to the rest of the Committee, work to ensure that the group settings are working and that everyone is well, and ensure that all Committee members have the information and tools they need to perform their tasks as well as possible.

One should be aware that it takes a lot of time to be Head of the Introduction Committee, roughly comparable to a part-time or sometimes, a full-time job. But do not be afraid! The time you spend gives a lot in return. You get to work a lot with people and there is nothing better than seeing the group develop both as individuals and as a group. You get to learn more about leading a group, delegating responsibility and work, dealing with conflicts and crises and you get to know an incredible number of fantastic people. When the new students arrive and you get to see the introduction you and your group have worked the whole year to plan come true, all hours of planning and preparation will be worth it!

We Introduction Coordinators are each responsible for one or more work areas in the Committee. This means a lot of responsibility, and we are expected to spend a lot of time both on weekdays and weekends on this work. Examples of areas we work with are the mentors, K-pHaktors, mission mentors, design of outfits and graphic material, film making, event planning and scheduling, the international introduction, information and communication, marketing and sponsorship collaborations.

In return for spending a lot of time, it is very rewarding and you learn a lot from being an Introduction coordinator. You get to learn a lot about teamwork, group dynamics, leadership, event planning, and communication. Depending on which area you work with, you will also learn more on that specific area. As an Introduction coordinator, you also get the chance to collaborate with and get to know many other Guild members and the other Introduction coordinators at LTH.
