We are Other Volunteers
As a Speaker I am the chairman for the Guild Meetings. The ordinary meetings are Spring Guild meeting (VT) and Fall Guild meeting (HT) 1 and 2. Sometimes there are also extra Guild meetings. My task is to make sure that the meetings run as smoothly as possible and are conducted in the right way. Together with the Student Board I am, as a Speaker, responsible for sending out summons to all the Guild members for the Guild meetings.
It is a lot of fun being Speaker since the mission is really important. When a Guild meeting is going well it benefits everyone in the Guild. You learn a lot about meeting formalities and how it should be used. Even if it is an advantage to have attended many meetings before it is not a prerequisite, you learn as you go.
As Auditors we are the Guild's review body. It means that we are in charge of double-checking so everything is done right. It falls on us to, among other things, control that the Guild's accountancy is done in the right way, to read protocols of the meetings and present the audit report at the Spring Guild meeting. The audit report is the auditors informed opinions about how the Student Board acquitted their mission during the past year. Since the audit report is presented at the Spring Guild meeting the term of office is three semesters long.
As an auditor you should be well informed about the Guild’s operation and that is why it is common that old Student Board members become auditors. You also have to be able to put your foot down for the betterment of the Guild if the Student Board mismanages their mandate or in another way overturn the Guild. Since it takes a lot of time you should have a burning interest for the Guild and its operation so the work will be well done.
The Biotechnology Days are a weekend when biotechnology students from the whole country meet to attend a fair, some inspirational lectures and parties. As a Biotechnology Contacts you represent The Guild of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (The K-Guild) at the Biotechnology Students (BTS) board meeting. When the Biotechnology Days are arranged in other cities we organize the trip there, as well as the distribution of tickets to Lund. The years when Lund arranges the Biotechnology Days the Biotechnology Contacts are the persons in charge and they also appoint a project group, the BTD Group. We are also the authorized signatory for the organization of the Biotechnology Students.
It is very fun and inspiring meeting students with the same education from different universities and exchange experiences and visions with each other. It is also fun to get to know someone closer, since there are only two Biotechnology Contacts and therefore the collaboration is usually really good! The year when Lund is in charge of the Biotechnology Days it is extra worthwhile since then you also get to work with economy and corporate contacts.
Her Tech Future is arranged every year and collects 120 high-school girls from south Sweden that study their second year at a technical or scientific program. The event is three days long, and gives an insight into how it is to study at a university as well as informing about different education programs. The days are filled with interesting lectures and exciting laborations, while the evenings invite festivities. As a Her Tech Future Contact you are in charge of the contacts with the responsible persons at LTH. We are also in charge of finding female mentors from the Guild that can take care of the high school girls while they are in Lund.
Her Tech Future Contacts are periodized project volunteers. You get nominated during the autumn and are only a volunteer until the summer. Her Tech Future is a really important event to inspire girls to be engineers. It is therefore fun to be a part of this! When inspiring younger girls to make the same career choice as yourself you get a lot out of it. This is a good opportunity to inspire and share thoughts about how it is to be an engineer.
As a member of the task force you participate and influence the future of the Guild by representing the K-guild’s students in all questions regarding Science Village. You have a large collaborative work with representatives from The Student Union at LTH (TLTH) as well as the other concerned guilds at LTH to be able to form a common opinion. Science Village is discussed over the whole LU and the progress is sporadically going fast which means that your work is important and will make a difference for the students and the K-guild in the future at Science Village.
We cook food for the attendees of Guild Meetings, so that everyone has energy to keep up with discussions on those late evenings!
The Council Election Board is responsible for calling, organizing and conducting public votes and elections for The Representative Council. One member is elected from each Guild at a Guild meeting; in our case the Second Fall Guild meeting! More information about TLTH’s Council Election Board can be found at tlth.se.
As a Vice Secretary, you assist the Secretary in their duties. Since the Secretary has a lot of administrative work, such as organizing documents for meetings and sending out summons and agendas for Board meetings and Guild meetings, there is often little time left for tasks like updating and translating the Guild's regulatory documents. The role of the Vice Secretary is to support the Secretary in this work and ensure that all of the Guild's regulatory documents are up to date and consistent with the latest meeting protocols. The Vice Secretary should also be able to step in when the Secretary is unable to attend a Board or Guild meeting, and should therefore be well-versed in taking protocol during meetings.
Since there are two Vice Secretaries, this helps to ease the workload, and you have the opportunity to work closely together. No prior experience is required, only an interest in organization, structure, and the ability to juggle multiple tasks. As a Vice Secretary, you become an expert on the Guild’s regulatory documents and on writing quickly!
GoD – Gammal och Dryg – acts as the Guild's advisors. As GoD, you mainly work with long-term, visionary matters. Since you have to have some experience within the Guild, you can contribute with different perspectives to the Board, the Committee Council, and the rest of the Guild when needed. There are 8 GoD members, which creates a medium-sized, close-knit group of veterans who can exchange perspectives and Guild experiences with each other.
For this position, you should have been a Guild member for at least three years and have had some Guild engagement, preferably in more responsible positions. In this role, you get the chance to guide and contribute your experience to the rest of the Guild, while also having the opportunity to remain involved in the Guild yourself!
Like the Biotechnology Contacts, as the Chemical Engineering Contact you are responsible for the outgoing chemical engineering students from LTH during the NKK event and act as their point of contact. NKK, like BTD, is a multi-day event held at a selected university in the Nordic region, where participants can attend company fairs, inspirational lectures, and banquets. In the years when NKK is held in Lund, you act as the project manager for the NKK project group and are responsible for organizing the event as well as managing its finances.
It is incredibly fun and inspiring to meet students from the same program at different universities and to exchange experiences and visions with one another. It’s also a great opportunity to get closer to each other. Since we are only two people, there is a great potential for collaboration to go well! The year NKK is hosted in Lund is particularly educational since you also need to oversee the finances, handle company contacts, and more.
