The Chemical Engineering program started in 1965, the same year as the K-Guild was founded. The Engineering program in Biotechnology was originally a master program at the Chemical Engineering program, and became its own program in 2001. Today, the programs consist of 5 years and both offer a wide range of masters, such as Process Design of Chemical Processes, or the master of Food Technology which is only available in Lund. The programs are based on technical disciplines within chemistry, biology, biotechnology, reaction technology and process technology.
A fundamental block makes up the first three years where students of both programs follow most of the courses together. The courses of the fundamental block contain a lot of mathematics and offer a fundamental understanding of problem solving within fields such as organic and inorganic chemistry, chemical reactions, biochemistry and process technology. The education also offers a course in industrial economy as well as some programming throughout different courses. Apart from obtaining theoretical knowledge, the students are being prepared for professional work through plenty of group projects, project courses, presentations and reports that are part of the education.
