Welcome to the Festivities Committee
We plan dinner parties and after parties for the K-guild!
We plan dinner parties and after parties for the K-guild!
We in the Festivities Committee organize dinner parties for the members of the Guild. It can be anything from fancier dinner parties and balls such as the Kalibreringsphest but also less fancy dinner parties with the ouveralle as dress code and different themes. We are also responsible for other events that we think seem fun to organize, where you can have the freedom to come up with your own ideas and suggestions.
Being a member of the Festivities Committee means that you work on some weekends and late evenings. It also means that you are part of a tight group that gets very close to each other when you work a lot together. Since the Festivities Committee is the Guild's largest committee, this also includes many opinions and a lot of cooperation.
Head of Festivities

As the Head of Festivities, I am responsible for the largest Committee of them all. I make sure that all dinner parties take place, and I’m responsible for the external communication from the committee. The Head of Festivities represents the Festivities Committee in the Committee Council, and is present at Board Meetings to give input and make sure that the Committee’s motions are approved. As the Head of Festivities, I am also in the Collegiate of Festivities with the other Heads of Festivities at LTH, and I am generally active in the Student Union. As Head of Festivities, you also keep track of the Committee's economy and budget. I also stay in touch with the supervisory authority regarding the alcohol permission.
As the Head of the Festivities Committee, you challenge yourself in many areas. It is a great challenge to lead such a large committee with many opinions. You also get a much deeper insight into what leadership means when you are responsible for the Guild's largest committee. This is a post that requires you to be reachable the majority of the time and you get a lot of questions you don't always have the answers to.
As Vice Head of Festivities, I lead the work with the Head of Festivities both during and before events. As Vice Head of Festivities you get to learn about leadership and working together in a big Committee with many people, and as many opinions.
Vice Head of Festivities sets schedules and does follow-ups. I am also responsible for making sure that everyone in the committee has access to important information and makes sure that everyone is comfortable both at the event and outside. The Head and I work closely together and our cooperation is crucial for the Committee to succeed in its mission. Vice may also have to take care of the Head's work when they cannot.
We who are Chefs are responsible for the planning of the cooking before all of the Festivities Committee’s events. We also manage the work in the kitchen during the events, making sure that every food preference is taken into account. After the event, we help to clean up, and make sure that all of the equipment is returned to KC. The Chef position is very time consuming before dinner parties, which means that many hours are spent calculating in excel and searching for ingredients on websites.
The position as Chef is extremely rewarding and all of the hard work is worth it when everyone has gotten their food. It is also great to have the freedom to be creative with food at dinner parties. No greater experience in cooking is required to become Chef. It is more important to plan correctly and solve problems that arise during dinner parties.
We who are Headwaiters are responsible for a lot of the practicalities during the events of the Festivities Committee. This includes table placements, eventual drink tickets, decorations and table settings. As Headwaiter, we are responsible for the porcelain used during fancier parties, and for making sure that all of the food preferences come to the right person. We often make maps of the entire party. As Headwaiter we spend a lot of time planning before the parties. The work and time required varies depending on the type of dinner party. During the party, a lot of the focus is on serving the food and making sure the preferences come to the right person.
As Headwaiter you learn to plan a lot of great events, and to lead the work during these. You also get the opportunity to decorate beautiful table settings and funny theme-events.
We as bartenders are responsible for all drinks, alcoholic or not, that are served during dinner parties and after parties. This includes some creative work where we aspire to serve the best we can come up with for every party, and to know how to make the best out of what you’ve got, but it also includes planning the purchase of these drinks. It is important to stick to the budget, and to be able to plan long-term. During the party, we lead the work in the bar, and serve drinks to the members of the guild. No experience is required to become a bartender: you learn a lot along the way.
As bartenders, we learn to take a lot of responsibility, to make budgets for events, and to mix great drinks. We also learn a lot about different alcohol laws and rules. The best with this position is that we get to know the other members of the committee and take part of the community that is formed. We also get to be very creative, which is super fun.
As Toastmasters, we are the bridge between the guests at dinner parties and the Festivities Committee organizing the party. We observe the mood in the room, create a timeplan, make sure it is followed, and keep track of all of the entertainment that is to be performed during the party (we are also present as guests at the party). When people are performing, they often need music, videos or some kind of props, and we Toastmasters usually make sure to help make the performance really good. After a dinner party, it is our responsibility to collect all of the song books, write in them, and take them to Gallien. As Toastmasters, we also have an important role in the Kalibrering that takes a little extra planning. When the Festivities Committee organizes events with other Guilds, it is important that we collaborate with Toastmasters from other guilds to make sure that the dinner party is enjoyable for everyone.
As a Toastmaster, you learn to have a lot on your plate at once, and to keep track of everything that needs to be done during parties. You will also learn how to manage stressful situations exceptionally well!
We Festivities Ions work as helpers for the Heads of Festivities when needed, but mostly with preparation before, during and after dinner parties. This can mean anything from chopping up vegetables, doing the dishes, standing at the entrance, and helping the Bartenders in the bar. This is a perfect position if you like working at parties, but do not want too much responsibility.
We learn how parties are planned, and how things work here at the K-Guild and at LTH, such as alcohol permissions, how commercial kitchens work, and how to cook. You also get to influence overall decisions taken about events and parties. You also get good at working effectively in a big group, and at seeing where you are needed. The best thing about being a Festivities Ion is to hang out with such a great group of people, and to be part of the community created within the Festivities Committee.
